Question for Elementary School Teachers: Whatever happened to Phonics?
Is it still being taught in school? I remember having to study Phonics from first grade to fourth grade. Are children being taught the basic phonetics of words?
ANSWER: I love this question. I’ve been asking it since I moved to maryland and saw that my kids were learning sight words instead of truly learning how to break the work down phonetically like I learned in school. Thankfully now, they are in private school and are no longer learning how to simply memorize words and are in fact learning phonics. Great Question.)
